Description: 

This program places students in paid internships in Science and Engineering at any of several Department of Energy facilities. Many of the participants in the program have decided on a career in science and engineering because of the nature of the experience. Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs. The different laboratories each offer different research opportunities. The purpose of this program is to develop the technical skills and scientific knowledge needed by students to contribute to the nation's dynamic science and technology enterprise. The program affords research and training opportunities that complement academic programs and introduce students to the unique intellectual and physical resources present in the DOE laboratories.
   

Benefits: 

Stipend, travel reimbursement and housing allowance. Details vary from lab to lab.
